School of Visual Arts

Sydney, Australia

This Penn State School of Visual Arts (SoVA) study abroad program begins with a short-term embedded program over winter break in Sydney, Australia. Students participate in an indepth experience of the changing cultural contexts that have shaped Sydney’s histories, from Indigenous perspectives and the impact of colonization, to the broad social, historical and environmental perspectives within contemporary Australian life.

The course not only introduces students to forms of cultural representation and social expression, but also encourages them to explore ideas and to engage with issues through their personal encounters with art in public settings, communities, and museums.
