Patterson gallery Presents Gestaltish Exhibition

Advanced Sculpture students (ART 430) led by Associate Professor Cristin Millett will present an exhibition of their most recent works in the Patterson Gallery December 5-9, 2016.

Ten artists will be featured in the exhibition: Nicholas Decker, Christina Dietz, Valerie Dillon, Robert Horton, Kaylie Maines, Helen Maser, Joseph McMahon, Hillel O'Leary, Corey Pratt, and Terry Young II.

The work being presented exhibits the range of sculpture at its widest. From stone-carving to performance, each piece stands alone, and yet, through juxtaposition and relative closeness, the works lend and borrow both context and perspective to create a unified experience; the whole is greater than the sum of its parts...sort of. The individual is no less powerful on its own than it is together, merely different. The contributing artists recognize that works of art, merely by existing in the same space, take on the meaning of or influence the interpretation of the works around it. So too, do artists take on and morph the perspectives of those that they work most closely with. This exhibition teases the line between piece and collection, individual and collective, to enter the viewer into a space that allows them to engage with not only each work and each artist, but also with the impact of the whole; to see both the forest and the trees.

Please join us on Wednesday, December 7th at 5:30pm for a reception in the Patterson gallery.
