Advanced Ceramics students (ART 480) led by Assistant Professor Shannon Goff will establish a lending library of ceramic objects in the Patterson Gallery November 13-26 . They will have an additional presence in Pattee Library, Tuesday November 15th and Wednesday November 16th from 10am-2pm on the ground floor near the information desk. All interested parties are welcome to check out a functional or sculptural item for a period of 48 hours.
The goal of this project is twofold: to allow individuals to foster a relationship with a handmade object and to “meet the makers”. Profiles of the artists will accompany the works. By getting to know the creator, the lendee may forge a personal and tactile connection to the object. Lendees are encouraged to use the hashtag #handcandyPSU to share their experiences via social media with the Penn State community and beyond. The project aims to reach beyond the College of Arts and Architecture to individuals who may have not previously had the opportunity to live with and use works of art. Although the objects must be returned, the experience may germinate into a lifelong appreciation for the handmade as well as for the very makers themselves.
Please join us on Tuesday, November 15th at 5:30pm for a reception in the Patterson gallery.
