A portfolio review is not required for first-year students’ entry to SoVA.  During the first year of study, students will be enrolled in SoVA’s pre-major (AAART).  Students typically enter a major during their second year of study, after a successful portfolio review and the completion of other entrance to major (ETM) requirements.

MAJORS

Bachelor of Arts, B. A.  (ARTBA)

Bachelor of Fine Arts, B. F. A. (ARBFA)

Interdisciplinary Digital Studio, B Des (IDS)

Art Education, B.S. (A Ed)

CHANGE OF MAJOR AND CHANGE OF CAMPUS STUDENTS

There is no portfolio review requirement for current students at University Park who wish to enter the AAART pre-major. Students can simply request the change in the "Update Academics" interface in their LionPATH Student Center. Students interested in changing to AAART are strongly advised to set up a meeting with Angela Rothrock, SoVA's Academic Advising Coordinator, to discuss the program. Please call 814-863-5349 or email Dr. Rothrock directly at arb184@psu.edu.

Current Penn State students who would like to change to AAART from another PSU campus location must submit a portfolio for review.  The portfolio should include 10-12 images of the applicant’s work and a statement (500 word max.) to describe one of the artworks.  Portfolios are reviewed as they are received and applicants are notified via email of the committee’s decision.  If admitted to SoVA, ETM requirements must be completed before declaring a major.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer students (those who have completed 18 or more college credits at another institution) must apply to Penn State University for admission and submit a portfolio for review.  The portfolio should include 10-12 images of the applicant’s work and a statement (500 word max.) to describe one of the artworks.  Portfolios are reviewed as they are received and applicants are notified by Penn State admissions of the committee’s decision.  If admitted to SoVA, ETM requirements must be completed before declaring a major.
