Virgil and Christina printing; photo courtesy of Christina Roberts SoVA is pleased to welcome Christina Roberts as part of the John M. Anderson Visiting Artist Lecture Series! Christina, head of education and master printer at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, will present a lecture and a series of natural dye workshops during September and October titled Plant to Print.” This nine-session workshop series will give students an overview of the history of color, help them identify traditional plants used in color extraction, and teach methods of color extraction, preparation for dyeing using aluminum and iron mordants, patterning techniques, and silkscreen printing using natural dye methods. Students will take a trip to the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia to silkscreen their own images onto cloth. The workshop will culminate in an exhibition in the Borland Gallery, October 22–November 2, with a public reception October 22, 2012, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the gallery.
