Ann Shostrom is represented by the Elizabeth Harris Gallery in New York, and exhibits internationally at galleries and museums. Stephen Mueller described her work as “a harvest of internalized ideas operating in painting.” Her hybrids cross painting with sculpture, installation, activism, and performance. Mario Naves writes: “Shostrom fearlessly mixes media…. Employing, embroidering and juxtaposing fabrics–dyed and not, stitched, patterned and frittered away through often caustic processes–Shostrom traverses East and West, camouflage and tie-dye, street art, the New York School and grandma’s doilies.” Shostrom co-founded the only cultural park in Manhattan, First Street Green. Her collaborative public art projects include a mural in Crete for Heraklion Cultural City, sculpture from decommissioned weapons in Albania, and Mir2 at Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, winning Dance Theater Workshop’s Bessie award for Performance, Installation, and New Media. She has a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MFA from Syracuse University.
