Ashlyn is of Gullah ancestry, born and raised in Northern New Jersey but has spent her entire adult life living in a country town in Northwestern Georgia. Her dichotomy of experiences between the two places has profoundly affected her understanding of self and through her work she takes you on her journey where she illustrates her experiences in regards to familial connections and relationships as well her experience connecting to race, gender and society as a whole. Ashlyn received her BFA from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA in 2013 with a concentration in Ceramics and Printmaking and a minor in Art History. Ashlyn has worked at a community arts center in Kennesaw as a Pottery Instructor and continues to educate others using multiple platforms. She has been regularly showing her work nationally and recently she gave an artist lecture and had a solo exhibition at the University of Alabama.
