Armor to White Light

WHITE LIGHT is the part of The Prince Project, a 4 part project that I received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2005 to begin. It is the “end cap” to The Prince Project. It consists of a sound filled architectural installation with a stylized video documenting my body performing St Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises in a ten layer, custom fit, muslin garment.

Spiritual Exercises are lengthy written prayers that Gian Lorenzo Bernini performed daily during the latter part of his life and career. The colorful small plates that encrust sections of the fabric are sewn paper strips cut from airbrushed drawings I have made during the past 10 years. These bits of drawings represent the scaling textures that can be seen on samurai warrior armor.
